Starting July 1, 2026, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge provides eligible Part D beneficiaries access to certain GLP-1 medications at approximately $50 per month. The program runs through December 31, 2027. Here's how to access it.
How It Works
CMS manages the Bridge through a central processor handling prior authorization, claims adjudication, and pharmacy payments. Unlike standard Part D, you don't need to navigate your plan's formulary directly — the Bridge operates as a demonstration program alongside existing coverage.
Who Qualifies
You must be enrolled in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan, have a qualifying diagnosis (type 2 diabetes or obesity — BMI 30+, or 27+ with comorbidities), and have a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider. The specific formulary of covered GLP-1 medications will be specified by CMS.
How to Get Your Prescription
Step 1: Talk to your prescriber (PCP, endocrinologist, or telehealth provider) about GLP-1 medication before July 1.
Step 2: Confirm your Part D enrollment is current.
Step 3: After July 1, fill the prescription at a participating pharmacy. The Bridge's central processor handles the rest — your out-of-pocket cost should not exceed $50 per month.
For Patients Under 65
The Medicare Bridge doesn't apply to you, but affordable compounded GLP-1 prescriptions remain available through telehealth. Many providers offer all-inclusive pricing starting under $100/month.
